How We Research Robot Mowers

Every guide on this site is researched and compared, not tested in our own garden. This page explains exactly what that means, so you can judge how much weight to give it.

1. Specs Come from the Manufacturer's UK Page

Maximum lawn area, maximum slope, navigation type, cutting height, noise, warranty, rain sensor and theft protection are taken from each brand's UK product page. Each model name in our tables links to the page we used. Where a brand publishes a figure only on a non-UK site, we say so.

When a figure is not published, we write "Not stated" rather than estimating it.

2. Prices Are UK RRPs with a Date

We record the manufacturer's UK recommended retail price, or a major UK retailer's listed price, together with the date we checked it. Retailers change prices often, so treat our figure as a guide and check the price on the day.

3. Owner Feedback Is Summarised and Linked

We read owner reviews on UK retailer sites, Trustpilot, Reddit and garden forums. We summarise recurring themes in our own words, for example "several owners report the app losing connection at the far end of the garden", and link to where we found it. We never present an owner's experience as our own.

4. How Picks Are Chosen

Each buying guide starts from what a particular garden needs: an area rating comfortably above the lawn, a slope rating above the steepest part, and a navigation type that suits trees and buildings nearby. Within those limits we weigh price, warranty, owner feedback and features that matter for that garden. Commission rates play no part. Several models we recommend earn us nothing.

5. Updates

Robot mower line-ups change every spring. Buying guides are re-checked before the UK mowing season starts and whenever a reader reports a change. Each page shows its "last checked" date.

6. Rules We Follow

  • No fake reviews, star ratings or testimonials. Under the UK's Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, fake reviews and concealing negative ones are banned.
  • Paid links are labelled. Every page with retailer links carries a disclosure at the top, and those links are marked as sponsored for search engines.
  • No review star markup for products we have not reviewed hands-on.
