Best Robot Mowers for Large Lawns (1,000 m²+)

On a big lawn, the job changes. Capacity, cutting width and how the mower copes with distance from its base matter more than in any suburban garden.

Quick Answer

  1. Best value up to 2,000 m²: Segway Navimow i220 LiDAR.
  2. Best up to 3,000 m²: Dreame A2, LiDAR plus a camera.
  3. For the very largest lawns: Husqvarna Automower 430V NERA, 4,800 m².
  4. Big and hilly: Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 3000.
  5. Large lawn, tight budget: Dreame A1 Pro.

Who This Guide Is For

This guide is for lawns of 1,000 m² or more: rural and semi-rural gardens, large plots, small paddocks and orchards. They are also where a robot mower saves the most hours of pushing or riding a mower.

Skip it if your lawn is under 800 m². You would pay for capacity you do not need. Try small gardens or under £1,000.

How We Chose

For big lawns we looked hardest at four things:

  • Rated area, with headroom. We favoured models rated comfortably above the lawn they are recommended for.
  • Navigation that holds up at a distance. Large plots often mix open grass with tree lines and outbuildings, so we favoured models that combine two navigation methods.
  • Theft protection. A large, often unattended lawn and a £2,000-plus mower call for GPS tracking and alerts, not just a PIN.
  • Support. Dealer networks and warranty terms matter more when the mower is a bigger investment.

Figures are from the manufacturer's UK page where published, otherwise from the retailer or source linked from the model name, checked 28 October 2026. "Not stated" means we found no published figure. Prices are the brand's UK price unless labelled otherwise, and retailers' prices change often.

The Picks

Best up to 3,000 m²

Dreame A2

  • 3,000 m²
  • Slope 50%
  • LiDAR + vision
  • £2,599 (Dreame UK store, regular price)

The A2 pairs LiDAR with an AI camera, rated for 3,000 m² and 50% slopes, and Dreame says it runs below 55 dB. Theft protection is strong: lift alerts, location tracking and an alert if it leaves the mapped area. An owner with a complex four-zone lawn found setup easy and no-go zones simple to add. Dreame's UK store was showing it well below its regular price when we checked.

What owners praise

  • An owner with a complex lawn split into four zones says setup was easy and no-go zones for a pool or trampoline are simple to add (source)
  • Reviewers rate the battery life highly and like being able to run it remotely (source)

What owners complain about

  • Auto-mapping fell short for one owner, who recommends about an hour of manual mapping instead (source)
  • One reviewer could not get it to cut tight to edges or into corners, and says it sometimes stops in odd places and pauses before resuming (source)

Owner feedback is from Coolblue reviews of the A2 1200 version, which may differ from the UK model.

Spec note: Noise is an upper limit ('below 55 dB').

Skip it if: you want precise edges without fuss. One reviewer could not get it to cut tight to edges, and found the app's many settings overcomplicated. The owner feedback we found is for a smaller version.

For the very largest lawns

Husqvarna Automower 430V NERA

  • 4,800 m²
  • Slope 50%
  • RTK + vision
  • £3,849 (RRP quoted by UK dealer Ron Smith)

At 4,800 m², the 430V NERA has the highest capacity in our database. It combines Husqvarna's EPOS satellite system with an AI camera that can keep mowing for a limited distance where trees block signal, and adds GPS tracking with a geofence, a PIN and an alarm. An owner with beds, trees and a pond reported accurate positioning and good detection of objects.

What owners praise

  • Owner with a complex garden (beds, trees, pond) found setup with the RS1 station straightforward, reported positioning accurate to a few centimetres and good detection of animals and objects (source)

What owners complain about

  • Same owner notes some zone-boundary edits require being on Bluetooth/Wi-Fi near the mower rather than working fully remotely (source)

Feedback is a single owner's review on a UK dealer's site.

Spec note: Slope is 50% inside the lawn and 25% at the boundary.

Skip it if: price is the deciding factor, or your lawn is steep at its edges. Husqvarna's UK page shows no price, and the figure here is a UK dealer's RRP. The slope rating falls to 25% at the boundary.

Big and hilly

Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 3000

  • 3,000 m²
  • Slope 80%
  • LiDAR + vision + Network RTK
  • All-wheel drive
  • £2,399 (Mammotion UK store)

When a big plot is also steep, the LUBA 3 AWD stands out: 80% slopes, 3,000 m², a 40 cm cut from twin discs, and LiDAR, vision and network RTK working together. UK owners describe it coping with large, tree-dotted, hilly plots, and one says it is more reliable than the Husqvarna it replaced.

Availability: Pre-order at Mammotion UK when checked.

What owners praise

  • UK owners say it handles large, tree-dotted, hilly or uneven plots with ease, including wet grass (source)
  • Reviewers call it well built and quiet; one livery-yard owner says it doesn't bother the horses (source)

What owners complain about

  • Some needed support to set up several separate lawns and found the software took time to learn (source)
  • Owners note it is heavy to carry between lawns and needs regular cleaning (source)

Owner feedback comes from reviews on Mammotion's own UK store, which may lean positive.

Spec note: Cutting height from TechRadar's review; noise is an upper limit (up to 70 dB).

Skip it if: you want it now, or you need to move it between separate lawns. It was on pre-order when we checked and owners say it is heavy to carry.

Large lawn, tight budget

Dreame A1 Pro

  • 2,000 m²
  • Slope 45%
  • LiDAR
  • £999 (Dreame UK store)

If your lawn is 1,000–2,000 m² and your budget stops at £1,000, the A1 Pro is the only model under £1,000 in our database rated above 1,200 m². It maps by 3D LiDAR and Dreame states a rain sensor and a 3-year warranty.

Availability: Sold out at the Dreame UK store; in stock at UK retailer Eco Wizard when checked.

What owners praise

  • Buyers say setup is quick and the app walks you through it step by step, with no perimeter wire needed (source)
  • Owners report a neat cut and fine clippings, with quieter running than they expected (source)

What owners complain about

  • One owner says it covers only about 100 m² per charge, and that the 2,000 m² figure applies only to Efficient mode (source)
  • Several owners found adding and editing multiple zones frustrating, with zones that can't be resized and slow support (source)

Owner feedback is from Dutch and Australian review sites; we found no UK owner reviews yet.

Spec note: Slope and cutting height from UK retailer Eco Wizard; Dreame UK does not state them.

Skip it if: you need to cover close to the full 2,000 m² on a tight schedule. One owner says the full rating only applies in its fastest mode, and Dreame's own UK store had it sold out when we checked.

Buying Advice for Large Lawns

Plan the Base Station Position First

On a large lawn, where the dock sits decides how far the mower travels to recharge. Husqvarna asks for at least 6 m of open space in front of an EPOS dock. If your model uses a local RTK aerial, our RTK base station guide covers placement.

Check Signal Across the Whole Plot

Satellite-guided mowers need sky view over every part of the lawn. Husqvarna warns that dense trees with crowns wider than about 4 m can block signals. Navimow lets you check network RTK coverage by postcode before you buy.

Protect the Investment

A mower worth £2,000 or more on an open plot is a target. Choose one with GPS tracking and geofence alerts, and tell your insurer. Which? found some policies need items over about £1,000–£2,000 declared individually. See our theft and security guide.

Large-Lawn Questions

Can one mower handle 1 acre?

One acre is about 4,047 m². In our database, only the Husqvarna 430V NERA is rated above that. Otherwise, look at two mowers or split the lawn into zones.

Is a wider cut better?

A wider cut covers more ground per pass, which helps on big lawns. The LUBA 3 AWD cuts 40 cm and the Navimow X430 43 cm, against 18–22 cm for most other models that publish a figure.

Do large-lawn mowers need a subscription?

Some network RTK and 4G services are included for a period and then charged, while others are included for the life of the mower. Sunseeker lists an annual renewal. Check the brand's current terms.
