Who This Guide Is For

This guide is for buyers with a firm budget. Which? says robot mowers usually start at around £600, and a few cost under £400. Between there and £1,000 is where the real choice now sits.

Skip it if your lawn is over 2,000 m² or steeper than 45%. Nothing under £1,000 in our database is rated for both, so see large lawns or slopes instead.

How We Chose

Every model here had a UK price at or below £999 when we checked. We used the brand's own UK price where it shows one. Where it does not, we used a UK retailer's or dealer's price and labelled it, because the cheapest price is not always the one on the brand's site.

Then we compared what each mower gives up to reach that price. Usually it is one of these: warranty length, slope ability, theft protection, or availability. We also counted the cost of things not in the box, such as a garage or a 4G module, where owners mention them.

Figures are from the manufacturer's UK page where published, otherwise from the retailer or source linked from the model name, checked 28 October 2026. "Not stated" means we found no published figure. Prices are the brand's UK price unless labelled otherwise, and retailers' prices change often.

The Picks

Biggest lawn for the money

Dreame A1 Pro

  • 2,000 m²
  • Slope 45%
  • LiDAR
  • £999 (Dreame UK store)

No other mower under £1,000 in our database is rated for anywhere near 2,000 m². The A1 Pro maps with 3D LiDAR, so it is not dependent on satellite signal, and Dreame states a rain sensor, lift alarm and 3-year warranty. It was sold out at Dreame's UK store when we checked, but UK retailer Eco Wizard listed it in stock below Dreame's price.

Availability: Sold out at the Dreame UK store; in stock at UK retailer Eco Wizard when checked.

What owners praise

  • Buyers say setup is quick and the app walks you through it step by step, with no perimeter wire needed (source)
  • Owners report a neat cut and fine clippings, with quieter running than they expected (source)

What owners complain about

  • One owner says it covers only about 100 m² per charge, and that the 2,000 m² figure applies only to Efficient mode (source)
  • Several owners found adding and editing multiple zones frustrating, with zones that can't be resized and slow support (source)

Owner feedback is from Dutch and Australian review sites; we found no UK owner reviews yet.

Spec note: Slope and cutting height from UK retailer Eco Wizard; Dreame UK does not state them.

Skip it if: you need many zones or tight passages. Owners report frustration editing zones, and weak handling near walls, fences and trees.

Neatest edges

Ecovacs GOAT O1200 LiDAR Pro

  • 1,200 m²
  • Slope 45%
  • LiDAR
  • £949.99 (UK retailer Marks Electrical)

The GOAT O1200 is the only mower here with a built-in edge trimmer, and owners say it makes a visible difference to lawn edges, a common complaint in the owner reviews we read. It navigates by LiDAR, is rated for 1,200 m², and Ecovacs UK states a 3-year warranty on the mower.

Availability: Out of stock at Ecovacs UK; in stock at Marks Electrical when checked.

What owners praise

  • Owners say the built-in edge trimmer makes a visible difference to how neat the lawn edges look (source)
  • Buyers like the cable-free installation and find setting up zones convenient (source)

What owners complain about

  • One owner says it often fails to dock and gets stuck once or twice per mow, needing frequent attention (source)
  • Setup is described as fiddly in gardens with many nooks, and one owner needed a factory reset after it mowed only part of each area (source)

Owner feedback is from a European retailer (Coolblue); we found no UK owner reviews yet.

Spec note: Ecovacs UK states a 3-year warranty; some retailers list 2 years.

Skip it if: noise matters. The trimmer pushes it from 61 dB to 81 dB according to Ecovacs, and an owner review notes it is noticeably louder. One owner also reported frequent docking failures.

Cheapest LiDAR mower

MOVA LiDAX Ultra 800

  • 800 m²
  • Slope 45%
  • LiDAR + vision
  • £609 (UK dealer YPC)

The LiDAX Ultra 800 pairs it with cameras, manages up to 150 zones, and was listed by a UK dealer at £609. Owners say it mows in neat lines with an extra pass along the edges, and one says it crosses a gravel path to reach another zone.

What owners praise

  • Owners say it mows in neat straight lines, then makes an extra pass along the edges for a clean finish (source)
  • Buyers found setup easy, liked how much the app lets them configure (zones, no-go areas), and say it crosses a gravel path to reach other zones (source)

What owners complain about

  • Owners note there is no garage included in the box (source)
  • The base station needs Wi-Fi coverage during setup (source)

Owner feedback is from a European retailer (Coolblue).

Spec note: Specs from UK retailer AO.com; MOVA's UK site could not be checked.

Skip it if: you want to buy from a big retailer with a clear price. The price we found is from a smaller UK dealer, AO.com lists the model without a price, and there is no garage in the box.

Cheapest from an established wired range

Worx Landroid M500 Plus (WR165E)

  • 500 m²
  • Slope 35%
  • Boundary wire
  • £599.99 (Worx UK product page)

If you are happy to lay a boundary wire, the Landroid M500 Plus is the boundary-wire model in Worx's long-running Landroid range. It has a rain sensor, PIN and lock, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and 150 m of wire is in the box. Worx's range page was showing it well below the product-page price when we checked, so look for the sale.

Skip it if: you do not want to install a wire, or neighbours are close. Its stated 67 dB is the loudest mowing figure among the budget models here, apart from the Ecovacs O1200 with its trimmer running.

Buying Advice Under £1,000

Price the Extras

Garages, 4G modules and anti-theft add-ons are sometimes sold separately. One YUKA mini 2 owner says the 4G module cost extra; MOVA owners say there is no garage in the box. Add these before you compare.

Warranty Is Part of the Price

Two or three years' cover varies more than the headline price suggests, and some brands require registration to get the full term. Gardena's 3 years needs registration within three months. Batteries are often covered for less time than the mower. See how long robot mowers last.

Sold Out Is Common

Several cheaper models were out of stock at the brand's own UK store when we checked, often while still in stock at a retailer. Our availability notes are a snapshot, so check on the day.

Budget Questions

Is a cheap robot mower worth it?

Our are they worth it guide compares a robot mower with a petrol mower and a gardener over five years. On a typical lawn, the gardener comparison is where the case is strongest.

Wired or wire-free on a budget?

Wired models are no longer always cheaper: the cheapest mower we track is wire-free. A wire still works under heavy trees. Wire-free saves the installation and is easier to change if you redesign the garden. Read wire vs wire-free.

Should I wait for Black Friday or spring?

In our view, it is worth watching for sales around Black Friday and before the spring season. If your current mower still works, waiting can pay. If you buy now, a winter purchase gives you time to set up before the first cut.

All budgets are covered in our main guide to the best robot lawn mowers.
